‘hmm, instead of saying first love I think of it also as a promise.’
‘A promise?’
‘Because it’s more like a promise but it’s also my one and only love until now.’
My heart shattered but I nodded my head letting him go on with his story.’
‘I had a promise with my special someone, we promised each other when we grow up we would be with together forever. We even created a pledge to remember our promise. But a year later he went to overseas with his family. We didn’t contact each other after that. All I know is recently he came back to Seoul.’
My heart was beating very wildly. I also made a promise exactly the same to someone. I didn’t contact because I couldn’t find him, they said he moved out from his old house.
‘It’s actually funny because when I first saw you I felt you were very familiar.’ He told me softly but loud enough for me to hear.
Come to think of it, his big round eyes are very familiar too. I had this feeling like I knew him very long ago.
‘Hyung, did you made the promise with your friend under a blooming cherry tree?’ I asked
‘Are you okay? You sound so serious.’
‘Yeah. I’m okay. But hyung I really need your answer.’
‘Okay, if you say so. I made the promise under a blooming cherry tree. It was actually very long ago.’
I said nothing but took him by his arm and pulled him into a hug
‘Hyung, do you remember the pledge both of you created?
‘I remember everything about that day. But why do you ask?’
‘I need to confirm something. All is left is the pledge, recite it for me.’
‘I lee Sungmin, promise to be with you forever, whatever that gets in our way my love for you won’t change, I would only love you’
‘It’s you hyung! You are the one I made a promise with.’
‘Then you continue the other part of the pledge.’
‘Even when my heart sets on fire, my dry lips wear out, it would still be you.’ I said looking into his big eyes.
‘Whatever anyone says it doesn’t matter to me, no matter now other people curse me I would look only at you, even if I am born again it would still be only you. I don’t need any words, it’s you’ we completed it together.
‘Why didn’t you keep in touch back then’ he said pouting. I tried so hard to control myself from jumping into him.
‘When I came back the owner said you moved house. So I didn’t know where else to look for you.’
He said nothing but nodded his head.
We lay on the grass patch enjoying each other’s presence.
‘kyu, saranghae. This has been inside of me since the day you left.’
‘I really regretted leaving you, every since that day I kept missing you. But there isn’t anything I can do. I waited till I’m about to enter college. I told my mom I want to study in Korea. Although she isn’t very happy about it but she allowed, that’s why I’m back. I really missed you. Saranghae Sungmin.’
We turned to each other at the same time, looking into each other’s eyes. Not bothering about things around us, we kissed passionately.
