Even so, it's going to end up causing some damage. And I doubt it's not meant to be fatal-the guy doing it had been trained in sword fighting, and I don't think the mad scientist guy would be screwing around.

I'd make a point about the blood, but anime characters routinely bleed about nine gallons worth if they cut themselves shaving, so it's not a good indicator of the nature of a wound.
