Hope for the next generation

I called my mother today to ask what to get Emily, my almost 8-year-old niece, for Christmas. Naturally, I have to keep it on the cheap, though my hard-and-fast rule for years was always nothing over $25. Her first suggestion is clothes. Yeah, what kid wants clothes?

"How about some Hannah Montana?" I ask her.

I can deal with the Disney Princesses in small doses. Actually, I don't mind Hannah Montana in small doses either--the show is such a trainwreck. Watch for the quasi-incest plots, LOL.

But HSM? Blargh! I'm glad to see my niece is developing taste. Well, she does like Spongebob, but other than that, perhaps there is hope she'll be a punk rock brat like her Aunt Cyn, mwah ha ha!

AMEN!!!

Another suggestion...one that I've been doing for my neice since she was five. She is now 12. Amazon gift certificate. She LOVES being able to choose whatever she wants, pours for hours over amazon...now that she is older, and way too mature for her age in some ways, it is no longer quite as exciting as it used to be, but I know she can't wait to get that thing this year, and already has a list of books she wants to get.

Just a thought! But Hello Kitty rules, too...

Her birthday is right after the new year; for that she is getting a Toys R Us gift card. Sort of on the same lines. :)

Hello Kitty does rule and it's going to be very tempting for Aunt Cyn to pick up an item for herself. ^_^
