OK: I can swatch for either Stardust (doubling 4ply) or Maude (*not* doubling 4ply) BUT because of those different yarn requirements I can't guarantee anything. Or you can come over and we can try to find something similar in 4ply, but I don't mind trying those two first.
My only other issue is I'm not totally sure how far the wool will go. For this reason I might try Maude (although it's circulars...) because it's top-down - meaning that I could just stop ribbing when I ran out. This might result in a fairly cropped cardi, though.
I think Maude would look better than Stardust if cropped short...my amazing knitter friend Sarah said she'd have a lookout for a potential pattern too, so she might come up with something cool (no pressure, Sarah :P)
You going to Cass's 21st tonight? Graham and Amanda are piking to have dinner with their new flatmate and Matt won't be there till after the show, but I'll be there!
I'll probably head over for a little bit, yeah - I'll chuck you a text when I'm leaving, or something.
See, I actually couldn't crop Stardust because it's bottom-up, not top-down. BUT Stardust might also be quite low in terms of yarn requirements, so I just don't know! Fortunately wool is recyclable so if I run out I can just rip out and start again (or go into my own skein for a bit.)
OK, before I can talk about this more I suppose I have to a) finish the shawl I have on my 3mm needles right now and b) swatch and then c) finish my Christmas knitting. So, um... I'll get back to you? :P
Not that much, not enough for a whole cardigan thing really :S It's beautiful alpaca that we got at the A&P show, but there's only 1 hank/skein/big loopy thing of it! Those patterns I found above I totally got by trawling through your journal and looking at what you had knitted/were wanting to knit/sites you recommended :P
I want something with little short sleeves, and kinda lacework-y top, but not a bolero, more in a cardi kinda style. I did look at Tulip Kimono, bit being not overly busty myself I thought I might be like the model in the picture and not fill it out decently. Also, I don't think there's enough wool for that. I totally should have got more!
We have about 200g, maybe slightly more, of 4ply (this soft alpaca - 200g skein for only $20 which is not bad at ALL. I got one too and I'm thinking about Raro dying it.) My drama is that there was no yardage (!!!) so I really don't know how much we've actually got, sigh. (This is why I'm thinking top-down would be good.) Advice gratefully received!
hmm, that could almost be enough for a cardi... but I see your problem - it may not be. I'd probably knit a cowl! But a top-down, cardiganized Maude could work. I just did a Ravelry search and couldn't come up with anything either...
Does Raro dying work? I've used Kool Aid before but that doesn't have sugar in it.
I knit that in 4-ply, even though it was meant to be knit with DK and I only realised I'd picked up 4-ply instead halfway through... Worked out fine though! The pattern's called Tulip Kimono and it's from the Interweave Knits web shop.
