Dear Stupid Parents: DO YOUR JOB.

As a parent, reading about something like this offends me:

NPR: Consumer Group Sues McDonald's Over Happy Meal ToysIt sickens me how some people can so easily abdicate their responsibilities as parents, guardians, and teachers of the human beings they've consented to bring into this world. For example ( Read more... )

I had a pretty structured childhood, but I was still able to have fun and be a kid. I don't even think my parents spanked me after I was 7 or 8 at the oldest. Looking back on it, everything had to do with setting boundaries. I knew them, and there were consequences for defying them. If anything, I'm not as rigid as my father was with me. I made a conscious decision not to do certain things or act in certain ways as he did with respect to discipline. I don't always get it right, but the Mrs and I work together to make sure the gaps are covered :)

Can ya tell I was a bit irked when I wrote that? :D

I simply could not believe the utter weakness conveyed by that parent in the article. It's pathetic.

I would probably have just rolled my eyes and moved on if I'd read that article five years ago, but now that I have kids of my own stuff like this just galls me. Yes, parenting is work, but it's not that hard, assuming one's priorities are in the right order.

Grr. Argh.

>>the first Happy Meal promotion was tied into Star Trek: The Motion Picture, for those wondering

I did not know that. Not only is this an excellent rant, it's educational as well!

>>Do you know the word "No," oh-stressed-out mom? I'll bet your husband hears it all the time.

I think that calls for an "OH SNAP!"
