Options to Move Out

Mar 04, 2008 13:57

Considering options to move out. This will be a long term project. May initiate sometime next year.

Options:
1. Own a place.
Advantages:
Money spent on mortgage is kept

Disadvantages:
Commitment to remain at a place
If choosing to leave, responsibility of selling the place

2. Rent a place or Lease.
Advantages:
Flexibility
Option to return home open
Testing the "waters" for a newbie like myself

Disadvantages:
Money spent on rent not kept as capital

===

Option 2 will be for immediate needs and for a learning experience. Option 1 will be for later.

I will be renting for 6 months BEFORE I ever consider owning a place. Too many things I need to learn first.

===

Obviously, I do not know squat about this. It's about time to learn that too.

Since I am very new at this and the option to return home will be open, I will try and experiment with something like -- a 6 month lease. A lot of things to figure out about myself; and the only way to go about it is getting out.

Some general searches:

===

To do:
1. Scouting. Get more information from places by visiting them. Drive around neighborhood.
2. Develop a relative budget.

Things to note:
1. Old building == High utilities
