Hello, Livejournal.

SO. RANDOM SLIGHTLY INTROSPECTIVE FANDOM POST RIGHT NOW.

Fact: I'm considering re-watching all Seasons 1 - 8 of The X-Files between now and July 25. Could I do it? Should I?

I mean, I know there are parts of Season 2 and 3 that I haven't seen in literally a decade, and I'm vaguely interested in being terrified for a second ( Read more... )

The most economical way, I think, would be to get a netflix subscription and work your way through the seasons that way.

I kind of feel really dumb that I hadn't thought of that! And I've GOT one, too.

Ahhhhhhhh, I can't wait to see how shitty video quality the Pilot episode actually is!

I also know that, like, I've never seen "The Field Where I Died." I KNOW RIGHT. NEVER. Not even for any particular reason, too. I just... know that I've never seen it.You should consider yourself lucky. Seriously. DON'T DO IT ( ... )

There was a time when every sound on my computer was a quote from X-Files.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA YES, MINE TOO MINE TOO. Like everyone else in the history of fandom who has done this, my alert sound was Mulder's girly scream.

I'm not sure I'd trade in the email lists for an LJ comm, you know?

I don't know if I would either. I mean: I've definitely grown out of the necessity of the email list, but there was something... not more personal, because LJ is incredibly personal, but - cliquish? In a good way? Or not even good, just more defined. The idea of a "ship war" was so much more clearly defined. And I like that mentality! Sort of! Email lists were so much more closed ranks, so... yeah.

HA! "Consorting with newbies"! I so feel this. Yeah, I will definitely not be joining any comms. Like, I check into xfiles from time to time, but only out of necessity.

my alert sound was Mulder's girly scream.

Um. YES. Heeeeeee.

For a brief, terrifying period, my shutdown sound on my computer at work was the entire iced tea scene. Oh, the mocking I endured from my co-workers -- and rightly so.

I don't think this is very weird at all. Then again, it's possible I'm crazily fannish like you are, but you know what? That's okay.

I second using Netflix. It will be significantly cheaper than that expensive collector's set, or the 8 season dvd sets separately.

As soon as I run through all three of the Bourne movies on my queue (two done, one to go!), I'm so starting this project.

I've got no idea how I'd go about attempting it, since while I love my show I have no desire (OR THE CASH) to buy eight seasons on DVD.

I see that you're already a member of a community that could help you out with that problem. :)

Except... I sort of have no conception of watching The X-Files on my computer, though! I feel the same way about Voyager. Or, conversely, what it feels like to see Doctor Who on TV. It's, like. IT FEELS WEIRD FOR ME.

I'm so odd.

If your computer has a DVD burner, you could burn it to DVD and watch it on your TV. Besides, wouldn't you have to watch it on your computer to get screen caps for your pic spams? (Speaking of pic spams, you should go look at leucocrystal's journal and check out her X-Files pic spam posts.)

If you don't have a DVD burner, then, yeah, Netflix is probably your best bet.

Yeah, I mean, Macbook's got a built-in DVD burner already, but... so complicated!

I think I'm going to go the Netflix route, since I've already got a subscription and I feel a bit dim for not realizing that hey, MAYBE I COULD USE THAT.

Oh, my goodness, this is going to be SO WEIRD. Be prepared for weirdness. Be prepared for me airing 10 pent-up years of Web 1.0 fandom weirdness.
