Question! Why does fandom often use the word fen to describe its participants? Because, um.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary:
Definition 1: Mud, clay, dirt, mire, filth. Also, excrement.
Definition 2: A mould or parasitical fungus that attacks the hop-plant.

A "fen" is also a bog.

However, in this particular case it's a slightly facetious pluralization of "fan," so as to distinguish true members of fandom (fen) from your average, everyday "fans" of something or another.

My current nemesis are "stat." Also, I tend to be mentally deficient at times, putting in words only to have them REJECTED REJECTED, until I realize that I'm spelling in French. ("WHY WON'T IT TAKE NOIR GOD DAMMIT")
