since i don't watch lost, but i caught the last few minutes of tonight's (probably repeat) episode, can i ask: why did jack flip a switch in that little room on the island and it reset to 108 and kendall (ok, director kendall on alias; i forget who he is on the island... locke?) says, "i'll take the first shift"? what the hell does that MEAN?

1. That totally was a repeat! But since ABC just started rerunning the second season, you didn't miss much!

2. Jack pressed the button because in the season premiere, the guy who USED to live in that hatch told him that if he didn't, the world would end. NO, SERIOUSLY. Jack thinks he's full of shit but, of course, everyone is a little scared to test that theory because it's possible that it COULD bring about the end of the world.

3. That's why they take shifts. It has to be pressed every 108 minutes, otherwise the world might end.

4. KENDALL = JOHN LOCKE (YEAH I KNOW)

(They do it on The Office, too, except I'm pretty sure that's 75% ironic and meant to be ironic, like with DWANGELA, and there's a portion of fandom that... doesn't get it. At all. LE SIGH)
