Just wrote a response to a story (by Heinlein) about a guy who is actually his own mother and father. And about what that says for time travel and agency and free will. My next story is the Radbury thing, "Sound of Thunder," which on top of me not wanting to think about Ashton Kutcher includes possibly watching an episode of The Simpsons in class? ( Read more... )

I cannot believe you get a Philosophy of Sci Fi class. CANNOT BELIEVE IT. (We have a Lit of Fantasy & Sci Fi, but a) it's technically a writing class, and b) it's always flooded with nonmajors, and c) my schedule has always hated me and never allowed me to take it. Sadface.) Is it just literature or is there television and movies stuff too?

It's four movies (Minority Report, Twelve Monkeys, Total Recall, and The Matrix), a bunch of short stories, and a whole crapload of philosophical articles (my favorite so far has been the one about Dr. Who and its implications on time travel and paradoxes). And since it's philosophy, I don't have to put much effort into writing the response essays before they're all "wow that's a fantastic point!!".
