Who would have ever guessed that *I* would be researching responsible spending?!

I'm spending this lovely Thursday at work surfing around for a decent pattern to crochet myself an iPod case, since I doscovered earlier that this week that iPod + sun = OWMOTHERFUCKERTHAT'SHOT. Which led me to this other train of thought, which I'd like to blame on my father, who used to lecture me on the "true price" of beef ( Read more... )

i have a mini. i was attracted by the fruity colors of the boxes on the shelves. :)
plus my music collection is only 16 gigs, at the most, and i don't see the point of having all of my music on there with 4 gigs of space left ... waste!!!
my boyfriend got a 60-gig ipod photo, which i thought was a huge waste, too.. fucking $400. but it balances out because he says he can look at photos of me on the go all the time, and that's sweet *grin*

Except, see, this is where my head gets fuzzy, because you don't HAVE to fill those last 4 GB with music. When it's plugged into your computer to transfer stuff, it also acts as an external hard drive, which means you can drag things into there like big movie files or use your iPod as a back-up system... whatever. When I bought my 40GB, I was able to transfer all the stuff I had downloaded at school from my computer, and gave my tired little laptop an extra 7GB of space.

See, if one could only fill one's iPod with music, then yeah, I would totally agree with the whole 60GB-is-a-waste.

(In conclusion, Apple owns my soul.)

I've been thinking about mp3 players to replace my old Walkman, and yeah, you do make an excellent point about the Minis. Plus, even if you don't have enough music to fill a regular iPod now, that doesn't necessarily mean you're not going to get morelater, and having to get another Mini seems ridiculous and switching music out seems like it'd be a pain. So I guess I don't really get the whole "too much space" argument. Isn't it better to have the extra space, in case you need it?

I think I should print this out and show it to my mother so she'll get me the regular iPod instead of the mini because, dude, I so don't want a mini -- I have more songs than that already.

*sigh* If only that would work.

Tell her about the whole "it acts like a Zip Drive, too!" thing. That way, it's one less thing to get for college. :)
