Why would this case be any different?

this would involve me shouting at my television screen BECAUSE SHE THINKS JAMES LET HER DOWN AND SHE IS QUESTIONING HER ENTIRE LIFE VIEW... and then very quietly an episode would come along in which no one actually talks about how this is the case so then he does vindicate her via a surrogate trial

Ahh, I thought you were referring to the time when Claire got killed, and then suddenly, randomly Jack went completely crazy prosecuting a drunk driving case and trying to get them locked up for murder 1 or prove it was intentional or whatever, and Jamie and Adam were reduced to gossiping behind his back "yeah, this is totally about Claire," even though (IIRC) he never really said it?

(Yeesh, that case was creepy when it happened to Olivet -- can't imagine it happening to one of the ADAs. :x )

YES. I think the best description of L&O UK is that it is all the time exactly like that back half of the season where randomly Jack Gets Super Depressed ALWAYS, Jamie Thinks About Quitting, and Anita Sues the Department over the course of multiple episodes. Except rather than secretly doing this stuff because we are L&O so our characters don't REALLY have lives outside the serviceable storyline... nope. L&O UK goes there. James and Alesha go on ice skating dates with James' son, and once upon a time, James blatantly lets Alesha use work to deal with her issues (as well as his own).

(For the record - this one was "Good Girl.")

can't imagine it happening to one of the ADAs

It's strange. If it had been a one-off, we will never talk about it ever again save for once randomly in the future, it would be. But time and again, it keeps coming back, and has become this... bomb that's still quietly going off. This is the only reason I don't begrudge this decision, because it was done WELL. I'M LOOKING AT YOU, SVU. I AM LOOKING AT YOU.
