Maybe I confused the actress and the person who plays her? Doesn't matter---all the Ladies are lovely. And Intelligent!

Now I must leave before my Brain Farts become obnoxious! 😷

It's a shame that a movie about smart and talented black girl is not getting the box office that a Disney film about princesses gets. Maybe they should have titled it, Princess of Katwee and had a singing Black Knight dancing around. ::eyeball::🙄👀👅

All that was missing was an Idina Menzel song or merchandising. Maybe they should have commissioned a Phiona doll w/a chess set. Disney cares about color--the color green and getting that $$$.

From your plot summary, it appears that both films are Revenge Films and Rape films. They are just coming at it from entirely different social and political viewpoints---and historical viewpoints tooWhile I feel not every slave film needs a rape scene (and IMHO the rape scene in "12 Years a Slave" was worse considering the ones in Birth of a Nation happens off-screen) to not show it will be to not show the full thrust of slavery. It was a fact. Comedian W. Kamau Bell tweeted a response once to some GOP-er who said that it's hard for a woman to get pregnant from rape because the body shuts it down ( ... )

Poor Nat Turner never gets his due. First the "through the eyes of a white guy" treatment from William Styron and then his story overshadowed by the horrendous acts of Parker (who has not handled this press tour at all well. Seeking advice from Mel Gibson? really?)

I feel for the rest of the BoAN cast but the fact that (given his own history) Parker added rapes to the storyline squicks me enough that I don't want to see it. Poor Armie - your boyfriend can never catch a break, even with his Oscar bait projects!

Richard Armitage is gorgeous in your candids. Swoon!

I just saw the trailer for "Get Out" and an updated Stepford Wives is the fall treat I didn't know I wanted! The lead guy is wide-eyed and pretty just like Katherine Ross in the original and Catherine Keener & Bradley Whitford look great as the evil parents.

He didn't play the game well, definitely. He should have taken the advice given by the PR folks but for me, that would not have helped any. People can see through PR schlock (like Ryan Lochte's apology). And apologizing to the public but not to the affected party isn't helpful. He either should've just said "No comment" across the board because he drew more ire than when the allegations went wide.

If Armie decides to just live off the Hammer money and be a debutante from here on out, I won't blame him. My baby has tried. Hopefully "Free Fire' will be the hit he needs/deserves. Great response out of Venice or maybe it was the Toronto Film Festival.
