I had ordered it before I saw any reviews, but as soon as I read reviews, I knew I had to read this for myself. I didn't finish it, but I did pass it on to another high school library This was definitely not a middle school purchase.

I have to admit, that reading this book really bothered me. I'm from NYC, but this was too gritty. To real? Not that it doesn't make it a good book, but this just is not the book for me.

OTOH - teens will love this.

Yes, definitely not for middle school!

And I can totally see how it will be too gritty for a lot of folks. I wish it wasn't reflecting a lot of teens lives. It is pretty sad in many many ways.

It's a tough read and sadly, does reflect the lives of many NYC teens. Maybe not quite as dramatic, but bits and pieces of it certainly ar.
