seven days of Self-Promotion: Something for a small fandom/pairing

I started writing stories about Kid and Heyes when the series was still airing, or just afterward; when I was 14, in 1971 (yes, I am that old, lol) so I didn't know about slash. These were silly little stories, mostly hurt/comfort, and because my friend was my writing partner, most included a Mary Sue named (honestly) Mary Heyes ( Read more... )

In the first season, the narration called them "two latter day Robin Hoods." Later on, the narration described them as "Kansas cousins." They also often quoted Grandpa Curry as if he was grandfather to both of them.

I do love my Kid and Heyes.

One of my all-time favorite TV shows. I was devastated when Pete Duel died. I had only memories of it until CBN started replaying them sometime in the eighties and I was able to tape them! (Severely cut as they were). Instant falling in love all over again. *g*

When I first got into fandom (around 1994) there wasn't much that I could find for ASaJ, and I was really more involved with S/H, and the Pros, of course. But I do have a couple of zines, and I did buy the DVDs when they came out. I love it that you were out there, too, being inspired by this old, short-lived, but quite wonderful show!

I can recall the night PD died instantly. We didn't usually watch the news but my dad did that night and I started to cry--and then went to babysit the kids across the street and cried all night.

And then they replaced him so quickly, I was bummed~ although I did watch RD episodes to support the Kid!

I was in the back seat of a car, dozing, while we drove to my uncle's house for a new year celebration. I don't think I cried--I was too numb. He was the third person I felt close to (and I know how silly that sounds, but i was young and he felt real to me, you know?) who had died--my father, my aunt, and then PD. I remember thinking that that's just what happened with people I cared about, like it was inevitable. (Which of course it is, but not like that. *g*)

I watched the RD episodes but it was never the same, and they aren't in my personal canon.

And what a falling-off was there! :D These boys, they will always have a special place in my heart. Searching for ASJ online is how I found fandom :)

Oooh, don't think I've read this fic *bookmarks*

Every time I watch an episode, I fall in love with those two all over again.
