Actually...yes! I probably won't use this exact piece, but this is what I envision. This story was actually born of a discussion with frenchpony a while back about Feanaro's naming of "Curufinwe" after himself, and she brought up the notion that I had yet to consider of how this must have looked to Macalaure, to see his god of a brother toppled in this way. I tried to keep it in the style of AMC as a result, so that you said this makes me feel like I accomplished this purpose. Thanks! :)
Before now, I have not given much thought to the actual process of naming the Elven children.
I had to read up on Essecarme prior to writing this. I'd always thought it was a bit of a kick to Maitimo to have the fifth son named after the father and acknowledged as Feanaro's favorite. Which is why I tend to think that there had to be a little something extra to the name "Curufinwe" than the dual recognization of Curvo's skill with craft.
I mean, it's obvious that Feanaro does no seek his approval when he looks at him and names ( ... )
