I confess that I am a city girl, but I try to respect the countryside and the people who live in it. Having said that, I know a lot who do not. It seems that the child was forgiven (as children should be for transgressions) but that the mother didn't use that as a teaching tool, but rather took any guilt away by telling her it was not her fault. No. Transgressions have consequences, and it was most certainly her fault. Karen died because it was Josephine's fault, and I suspect her mother will still be telling her that it wasn't her fault for years and years to come. What a warped lesson!
