Lord Willin and the Crick Don't Rise

Apr 12, 2017 21:19

The crick done rose.

When we had the February thaw, the Barton rose to the level of River Road. I wanted to take pictures then, but by the time I got the chance, the water level had dropped.

It's been very warm this week, and most of the lingering snow and ice have melted, so that Barton has risen steadily every day all week. We went kayaking on Read more... )

Oohh! Super cool! I love high water. We grew up in the Wabash River Valley (Wabash is a big river that connects to the bigger Ohio River). And all around where we lived there were smaller rivers and creeks which were tributaries of the Wabash and any or all of them prone to flood in the springtime depending upon melting snow and spring rains. Great anxiety for adults but awesome excitement for kids!

Nice pictures!

This is my first time living near a significant body of water. I do feel lucky to not only live on high ground--before we even considered seeing a property, we checked if it was on a flood plain--and that the road apparently doesn't flood, though! I love having the river so nearby.

Nice pictures!

Thanks! They're just cell phone pictures, but the light was really interesting yesterday evening: setting sun filtered through piles of clouds.

Water is amazing. It just goes wherever it wants to and our own wishes count for nothing.

I remember flooding on the coast--our little intersection flooded enough with any hard downpour that kids could play in the middle of the road on inner tubes.

The pictures are really good! I love the blues in that last one.

Thank you! It was sunset, but the light was coming through piles of clouds in the west. It was interesting light, and my phone camera seems to have coped with the low light by making everything a lovely blue. :D

This is our first time living near a body of water, so its vagaries are of endless fascination. I would have loved to have had access to water like that as a kid.

That was one condition we investigated before seeing a property: that it wasn't on a flood plain!

I know! Part of me thinks it'd be really fun to take the kayak down but I'd never make it back up! :D
