The Holidays in Few Words and Many Pictures

Jan 02, 2007 21:13

I've been too busy to write in my LJ (horror!) but I do want to remember this holiday. I did lots of stuff...hence being too busy to write about it all in my LJ. I will now attempt to write a brief summary of each (no rambling, Dawn!) and post the appropriate pictures.

Aww, Alex is getting so big! I showed my mom some pictures of him yesterday (mostly the ones of him carrying the book to his lair) and she couldn't stop squeeing. :D

And I'm a dork: when I saw two of your photos of the outside of the Saint Patrick's Cathedral, I thought I was looking at my own photo gallery simply because I recognized the building! (Though your photos came out better than mine did, I think) *went to bed a little late this morning* ;)

Alex had doubled in size the last time we took him to the vet, and he's grown still more since then. I have a whole bunch of Alex pictures to post, including then-and-now pictures that really show the change.

My baby's growing up.... *pout*

And your St. Pat's pictures look just fine to me! Also, you got the zamboni on the ice rink. How cool is that? :^D

As does not washing the jersey until the team loses. (I just found out the other day that Bobby has yet to wash his Ed Reed jersey that I got him four Christmases ago because he's afraid to. I guess when Ed retires, it can finally go into the laundry.)

That's what Febreze is for! ;-) All paise the creators of Febreze! ;-) I don't have any Major League Football (LOL!) jersies, I used to own a semi-sorta jersey for the Braves (had Glavine's name on it I think, and once he betrayed the Braves, I kinda... lost it), but mostly, I just have ye olde silk-screened t-shrts you buy in ye old stores... and a good lot of them are for the Vols. Albeit, technically, they're my free t-shirt I got for donating a pint of blood at the local blood bank. (Damn, the vampires haven't called me in a LONG time. I kinda miss it.)

I will be taking what I call a "weekend writing sabbatical."

I *so* need one of those!! But it's more likely I'll have books with me and end up reading more than writing... I think my muses have left me for the winter... Sort of.

You need a weekend reading sabbatical! :)

And yay Febreeze! Bobby and I solve the problem by wearing our jerseys over other shirts so that they don't get dirty. Bobby is not allowed to observe the no-washing tradition with his hockey equipment. *gag*

Also, I could be offered Steve McNair himself and I don't think that I could give blood. Unfortunately. :( *faints*

You need a weekend reading sabbatical! :)

Which is what my mini-vacation might end up being... Two books read and I'm starting the third... Meanwhile, at least two stories are needing to be worked on/finished...

And yay Febreeze! Bobby and I solve the problem by wearing our jerseys over other shirts so that they don't get dirty.

*blushes* I've used it on my clothes too, generally if I'm out of clothes and haven't yet made it to the complex laundry room. I also use the air freshener (piney or lineny fragrance), and I have a half-full bottle of the pet odor remover kind. All praise the makers of Febreze...

I don't think that I could give blood. Unfortunately. :( *faints*Oh, I never look while they're doing their thing. And sorry to say, they have to take blood from the same arm every time. The vein is easier to get to, as my entire left side is deathly afriad of needles. I kid you not! The veins will disappear if there's a needle anywhere near them... only on the left side. It's weird, and entirely too funny to see the nurses' ( ... )

I can't believe you don't have a sparkly logo for your team.

I see that you and I have very different definitions of "How to have a good time in New York." I went to New York on the 26th to see my best friend, who just got a job working in the business office of the Roundabout Theatre. He can get comp tickets from the Roundabout, so we went to see the revival of The Apple Tree with Kristen Chenoweth and Brian d'Arcy James, who I'd seen in Titanic lo these many years ago. It was cute, fluffy, utterly without substance, carried entirely on the stellar performances and enormous voices of Chenoweth and d'Arcy James. Definitely not bad for free.

As to St. Patrick's. You think that's decorated to excess. Honeypie, you ain't seen nothing yet. That cathedral was built after people learned to read.

I think that I could have your sort of fun in New York as well. Unfortunately, for this trip, we have just enough time that we have to find things to do to occupy it but not enough to travel far or plan anything too ambitious. Last time we were in New York, Bobby and I stupidly decided to walk from our hotel on 42nd Street to Battery Park and back. We saw the city, yes, but I also couldn't walk for the rest of the day!

We're largely museum people, though. I could probably enjoy a show like you described, but Bobby probably would not. So we stick to our geeky museums or urban hiking, and we're both happy.

Urban hiking is pretty cool. When you live in Chicago without a car, you do an awful lot of it.

The thing with a show like The Apple Tree is that you have to recognize and take it for nothing more than what it is: a silly spectacle designed to show off good singers. Free is usually the best price for this sort of thing, and it should not be paid for by the sort of people who relentlessly analyze their theater for deep social commentary.

Yep, Alex is good at ripping paper into tiny pieces! Or sticks that he finds outside....

Yesterday, he discovered the box of paper in my office that I had set aside to be shredded. So...he shredded it for me! :^D
