[Artie is sitting quietly, trying not to move his head. He feels sick if he does. He gives Jan a quick sideways glance, but doesn't turn to look at her. Instead he reaches for her hand.] Hey.
Like I've been run over by a truck. Instead of pushed over and out of my wheelchair. [He touches the top of his head and winces.] I've got the mother and father of all bruises.
[Did Jan just growl? Yes, she did.] How could - why'd they - that's...
[Another frustrated little growl and she momentarily give up on finishing that sentence. She lets go of his hand so she can kneel down in front of oh him and try to check to see how bad it really is.] Did anyone check that out?
It's what they've always done. [There's that resigned but hurt tone. The one where he knows he can't do anything about it, but it still hurts like hell.] I just wanted out of there. Guess I should get it checked out.
You should. You could have a concussion. [Sighing, she takes his hand again.] Always done doesn't make it right. Sometimes I think most people here were raised by wild animals.
To the nurse or do you think you should see a doctor?
Um...right tag on the other thread?sf_girl_fridayMay 28 2011, 23:33:07 UTC
Of course. [Her worrying worsens when he mentions the doctor. Jan hadn't really expected him to consider that. Standing, she moves behind his wheelchair, making sure not to do anything that might jar him as she begins pushing him toward the nurse's office.]
*HUGS* NP Just thought I'd check before taggingsf_girl_fridayMay 29 2011, 00:00:03 UTC
I know but I'm still sorry it happened. [It takes a few minutes for them to reach the office since Jan's afraid to move too quickly. When they're inside, she takes his hand again, trying not to fidget or worry too much.]
[He holds onto her hand tightly, breathing shallowly to try and stop himself from being sick all over the floor, or worse, Jan.] Too late to worry about it now.
[Now Jan's really worried, calling out to the nurse. What if it was serious? What if he needed to see the doctor or...No, she couldn't keep thinking about that since it'll just freak her out.
She stays out of the way as best she can while the nurse checks Artie's injuries. Jan keeps holding his hand, unwilling to let go unless someone orders her to, waiting for the nurse to tell them how badly he was hurt.]
[The nurse examined him, decided that he'd taken a nasty blow to the head, but that he'd be okay. He might have a mild concussion, but unless he became a lot worse, there wasn't a lot anyone could do apart from keep an eye on him and make sure he was okay.]
[He still held onto Jan's hand, feeling a little better as the nurse left them.] I'm sorry...
[She lightly ran her thumb over his knuckles, managing to smile weakly.] If anyone should be sorry it's whoever pushed you. I - [If she wasn't careful her temper would get the better of her.] Never mind.
I guess we need to call your parents. Get you home so you can rest.
