styrofoam recycling

I live in Arlington, which accepts large packing foam (the kind that immobilizes electronics in shipping boxes), but doesn't accept small foam containers (clamshell boxes from takeout food, which have a #6 recycling symbol on the bottom). Somerville residents can drop that sort of stuff off at a pickup location a couple of days a year (http://www.somervillema.gov/trash - search styrofoam). Last year there was one on June 11 and one on September 10. It says you need to be ready to present some sort of ID, but we did not get IDed the one time we were organized enough to go.

I went to the Somerville DPW June 11 drop off last year, and they took the food styrofoam containers and trays at that time, but then I remember reading somewhere that effective the September drop off, they stopped.

If I get around to calling 311 for an answer, I'll post an update.

Thank you, I'd be interested to hear that answer, since I know a lot of Somerville residents and I'm sure somebody would be willing to bring in my styrofoam with theirs.

ReFoamIt was the company that collected styrofoam at the DPW events. Unfortunately, they are no longer in business.
