I can help! Not directly, but indirectly. The MRC is a group of volunteer citizens who help out in times of need -- we stand there with clipboards and hand out pens and put up chairs at shelters,we unload water bottles at cooling shelters, etc. etc.(Uh, that's what *I* do. People who have actual skills like nurses and doctors give out flu shots and do much more useful things.) It's all very helpful work and you're under no obligation to put in any hours once you sign up and get the initial course, but you can if you want. The COOLEST and most relevant thing (besides the warm fuzzies) is that they offer a ton of classes free for volunteers. How to set up an emergency shelter, emergency first aid for pets, and they often offer a free multiday class is ASL. I'm glancing at the calendar right now and I don't see if offered this month, but it may be offered soon.
