This truly makes my heart ache. And as if she isn't suffering enough pain and guilt, people blame her for not evacuating the kids soon enough. I don't know how she is going to get through this. So so so sad.

When something - finally - happened to him that was w-a-a-y over the top ( to wit, the death of Joy Davidman Lewis), instead of his usual hard-ass remarks "It's all in His plan"; "suck it up"; "When life hands you lemons..."; "I cried that I had no shoes...", yada yada, Lewis finally did some caterwauling himself ("A Grief Observed").

I think part of the purpose of gods is that they are entities you can scream at about the universe. If they're not out there, then you're not harming anyone, and if by some chance they are out there, they are bigger than your ability to hurt them. Especially if - as I've always been told by people who turned around and painted the world in the worst shades of maltheism - a god may be the only one safe to scream at sometimes.

If maltheism is correct, a god is the least safe one at which to yell. Maltheistic gods are the most petty and jealous of all gods, and the easiest to offend.
