Emotionally subtle?

I mean, I like 300 too. But to my eye, there was nothing at all about it that was even remotely subtle. It was larger-than-life in every way.

I did a review about it here on LJ, you can go look it up if you like, see how my viewing experience compares to yours.

<< Emotionally subtle? >>

More like emotionally subdued. It's a brutal flick about war, and it treats war as just that - war. Emotionless. Brutal. Nasty. There are a lot of quips and monologues, but not a lot of 'tender moments' to be had, a few, but not many. With the exception of one of two scenes, there isn't a lot of 'emotional resonance' to be had.

Ooh, I've been very excited about that, as a fan of Miller and of ancient Greece. I'm glad to hear it works. It's definitely on my list as one for the big screen.

Did you see Children of Men? That was my Best of 2006, I think.

I did. And, I liked it a lot. But, 300 isn't nearly as depressing.

300 is a film you must see in a theatre. And, it's one film that I might actually see again in the theatre, and I don't say that about many films.

By the way, I felt that this article about 300 was worth noting:

As I'm sure you read 300 - how true are they to the story? I heard they have added a plotline.

The story, for the most part, is ripped from the pages of 300.

They did add a plotline. And it works well and serves as a nice contrast to the battle. It adds to the story, rather than taking away from it.

They added nude scenes.

No, I'm not complaining. Far from it.
