Yikes!!

Okay, yesterday's post title really was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, and the post itself was intended as a commentary on the economic situation and NOT an actual plea for people to buy my book.  It certainly wasn't meant to imply that if people didn't buy my book that I'd never publish anything again.  I'm grateful to all who have responded on both ( Read more... )

Oh dear....does this mean I have to go re-kidnap those people I abducted, drive them back to the bookstore and make them return the books I forced them to buy yesterday?

*grins, ducks and runs away*

I just figured you were channeling Selena Rosen. She's very good at proclaiming "Buy my book!" Unsubtle, but often it works.

You definitely hit ze nail on ze head. Decreased books sales = fewer chances for future publication. It's an ugly fact for all authors. Well, except for a rare few on the top of the heap, that is.

I do, however, love Madkestrel's idea, but for it to have any effect it's going to have to be busloads of folks. Or maybe everyone at the Super Bowl. Humm...

Thanks for the comment, Jana. You'd love MadKestrel, too. She's great. Misty Massey, author of MAD KESTREL. She'll be at ConCarolinas. Will you?

[Edit] I've been birding for 39 years. I've been a professional writer for 15. And I still can't spell KestrEl!!

Oh see, now you're making me blush!

If it makes you feel better, the first set of contracts Tor sent me had it spelled "KestrAl" all the way through. *laughs*

I'm quite fond of mad authors. Nope, won't be at ConCarolinas this year so I won't get a chance to meet her. I've cut back on my con schedule to avoid hitting the wall like I did in 2008. I think I'm doing four or five total, down from the usual eight to ten. Which means, dear sir, I probably won't be seeing you either since you don't frequent Dragon*Con.

I'll be at DragonCon (still haven't heard if they want me for a guest or not) so maybe we can say hello and gossip about David when he isn't around.

If that's the best you can think to do with your time at DragonCon, you have my pity.... Maybe it's time I gave Dragon another try. I mean, if TWO of my favorite people are going to be there....

I can picture it now: you sneaking out of your crib in search of a Kestrel, mad or otherwise.

I'm older than you think, m'dear. If I've been birding for 39 years, that means I began when I was six or seven. Immature? Certainly. But then again, I'm still immature. But I was definitely done with cribs.

Since I was the only one who commented on that post (and I wasn't extremely concerned about you paying the rent this month), I'm guessing you rethunk it or someone contacted you besides posting on LJ.

That being said, what do I do now with my 500 copies of Horseman's?

Pfft, like you'd give up writing to eat. Psshaw....

(Don't think I didn't notice that you popped the title of the book into this post as well. LOL)

Next up: John McCain (who, despite being a complete tool, luvs Horseman's Gambit) went on the Senate floor (which resembles a scene in Horseman's Gambit) and read a speech that could've come directly from Grinsa's mouth ($20.48 on Amazon.com) and...that's why he wins this week's BOW Award (sponsored by Horseman's Gambit from TOR Publishing, in stores NOW!!!).

I'm still trying to get past the idea of John McCain being a reader of high fantasy....

The comment that brought me up short was on my other personal blog at Wordpress.com (same content, different platform).

As to what to do with your 500 copies...hmmm....With Rules of Ascension or Seeds of Betrayal I'd have recommended that you build a house, but my books have gotten shorter and therefore smaller. Still, a bungalow?
