Reached something of a milestone on the work in progress (Book III of my Blood of the Southlands trilogy) today. You can see it plainly on the bar below:
I was about to cheer and note that I just passed the half-way point on my own at about the same time. Then I realized that your half-way point, word-wise, is my all the way point. I've always been stunned by how epic fantasy writers can write that much, and quality, in a non-epic amount of time.
Thanks for comment, J.P. Not sure about the quality thing, but epic fantasy does tend to run longer than other subgenres. This is still true, even though the average epic fantasy is a good deal shorter than it used to be. My first 5 books were all over 200,000 words. The next three were closer to 160,000. The Blood of the Southlands books will all come in at about 140,000. It's a changing market.
