Punch Brothers Concert: A Review

Bluegrass mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile, formerly of Nickel Creek, came to our little university town last night with his new band, the Punch Brothers.  In addition to Thile, the band consists of  Chris Eldridge on guitar, Paul Kowert on upright bass, Noam Pikelny on banjo, and Gabe Witcher on fiddle.  All of them assisted on harmonies at one point ( Read more... )

Thank you for this! I love Nickel Creek but I haven't taken the time to explore Chris Thiles solo work or his new band. I will definitely do so, now.

I'd suggest that you give Punch, the Punch Brothers' album, a listen before buying it. It's different from Nickel Creek, and, for me at least, less accessible. You might love it; then again.... Forewarned is forearmed, right? The concert was great, but in part that was because the newer part of their repertoire was softened by the more traditional pieces they played. The album may not have that softer side.

Up
