Thanks for explaining it, I knew Labour won but not details. Good! I hope Labour can get Britain back on it's feet as you said. I am happy to learn so many bad ppl lost their positions.
And I'm hoping/wishing/praying come November we can remain a democracy!
The extremists who would take control otherwise, project 2025, tump as king and the supreme court the hand of the king as tump goes on his revenge tour... there are maga ready for bloodshed, who want public executions of Pelosi, Clinton, Biden, Schumer, Garland, etc
This is the scariest time in my life politically and I first voted for Jimmy Carter for President age 20, began adult life post college w. Reagan... *sigh
It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few years. ALL of Europe seems to be going far-right; I hope the UK doesn't follow in their footsteps through the Refotm Party.
Indeed. A few of that Reform party have been thrown out due to racist and homophobic tirades. I fear there could be an underbelly of far right scum hiding behind their so called benign rhetoric.
I agree, and that's scary. It's q little too much like when the Nazi Party first made inroads in the Reichstag in the 1920s.
Meanwhi]e, it's no longer behind closed doors with the Republicans here in the USA that there will be death camps for liberal Democrats like me, or at least a violent uprising against us if that fascist bastard Trump is elected. Since I answar poltical questions on Quora every day, I am a target. So if he is elected and you don't hear from me, I'm either already dead or in a camp.
I think the Lib Dems did so well because in quite a few seats- like ours- they were the only viable alternative to the Tories. Labour didn't have a prayer in Eastbourne but the Lib Dems did- and they duly won by a landslide.
This election wasn't' about enthusiasm for Starmer but about removing the Tories by hook or by crook.
It's unlikely that a government that has done well out of "first past the post" will want to bring in PR. It's an idea that appeals to minority parties- like the Lib Dems- and which is more or less guaranteed to lead to coalitions.
Under PR there would have been no Labour landslide- and the Tories would still have been a force to be reckoned with- and might even have been able to form a government if they'd been able to seduce Ed Davey the way they seduced Nick Clegg.
