Midnight Jazz

Nov 06, 2014 01:06

As usual i select an after midnight tune. Earlier i was watching on Sky Arts two concerts by the excellent jazz singer Anita O'Day , one from 1962 and one from 1970. In both gigs she sung this track, Sweet Georgia Brown, but her best version is the one she did at the 58 Newport Jazz Festival. She follows it with Tea For Two.

Have you seen the film Jazz on a Summer's Day? It made me want to book my tickets to Newport for next summer immediately.

That was terrific. I heard her on an old interview say that she picked the name O'Day and that it was Pig Latin for Dough, which she planned to make a lot of.
