This is a picture of a police officer giving a $100 ticket to a vehicle for parking within 3m of a hydrant - despite the fact that is legally parked in a designated city parking spot.

If there were a fire, could the truck access the hydrant? Yes. So let's observe the purpose and function of the law, rather than the letter of it. Total dick move, even if technically following the letter of the law.
I remember an early episode of the show Third Watch, where a car was parked next to a hydrant, so the firemen used their axe, smashed through the windows and ran the hose through the car. I almost think that's better than the ticket. Take the gamble if you want, but it'll cost more than $100 to replace the windows, not to mention the water damage!
