human remembering vs. computer remembering

A few months ago I posted sketches from my Tobermory Dive Trip. I didn't have a camera, and I wanted to capture and share the experience I had.

This is one of my sketches, based on my memory of the dive (and a tiny bit of artistic license).

Why thank you!

"People who can draw are like aliens to me."
I have fingers, you have vocal chords (and a belly button).

You can see more of my stuff on my homepage. Sidebar has a Dave's Art section.

I mean, my belly button isn't artistically talented, like yours is.

Wow! Well done!

I like how the more distant structures fade away into the distance in your sketch. Visual range must diminish fairly quickly. I like the underside of the boat for reference. When I first glanced at it, I thought it was a Wells/Verne inspired bit of fantasy, and that the boat was a zepplin, but then when I actually looked at it, I figured out what was going on. If you did this from memory, that's pretty amazing. I notice all kinds of structural details that the sketch and photo have in common.

Bravo!

"...I thought it was a Wells/Verne inspired bit of fantasy..."

You pegged it exactly! That's what struck me when I saw it - and why it's my favourite part of the whole trip.

That's seriously cool.

Like sarcasma, I'm awed by people who can draw.
