Unimaginative aliens.

Imagine you've been given millions to make your film. It involves aliens. These aliens will be seen as non-moving prop remains, and live ones will be rendered in CGI. You therefore have free rein to make them look as weird as your imagination allows ( Read more... )

There's a chap called Nemo Ramjet (he's also on Deviantart an artist who spends a lot of time learning from scientists. His recent Snaiad project is an alien planet with a detailed biosphere- the animals clearly form a natural group, but aren't much like anything on earth- and the ones that are are only superficially so.

I wonder if it was easier to make something look obviously non-human before people started churning out everything on CGI.

It is. I could have brought up all the weird fossil stuff he talks about. Give them a bigger brain, and stick an extra pair of arms on one of Mark Witton's azdarchids and you'd have some seriously cool-looking aliens.
