The Group of Seven was a group of artists who painted scenes of the Canadian landscape around Lake Superior, and Algonquin Park in the 1920s. They were very much influenced by the impressionists, and probably my favourite painting is Pic Island by Lawren Harris.

I got dragged to the McMichael when I was a wee boy-kid and was not much impressed at the time (I'm pretty sure the fault lay more in my callow self than it did in the Group of Seven; yes, I intend to go back some day), with the exception of Harris. There's a lot to be said for dynamic tension in powerful subtlety.
