We were nervously tracking the snow's approach back in November - we literally got the removal lorry across from London to Kent during the day with the weather front coming in behind us, and woke up the following morning to several inches of snow - it took me six hours to get the train back into London, on a desperate dash to get my work laptop from the office, followed by a 3 hour return trip, so that at least I could do the month-end while snowed in...foolishly I'd thought it would be safer at work than trying to include it in the packing, and since I'd had a week off to do house stuff before we moved, hadn't had an inkling of the predicted weather on my last working day beforehand!
(We'd merely got 'several inches' in our village due to being faiy close to the coast - but the Medway had got the full wallop, and the trains were struggling to get through...if we'd have been a day later I don't think we could have got the lorry across from London, because the roads had the same problem)

They wouldn't have put up with the indignity or a trip in the van
Also the fact it was ON FIRE might have bothered them a bit.

(It's even worse when there's two feet of snow outside)
