Nova - The Bible's Buried Secrets

It essentially looks at the very early history of the Israelite people by means of a combination of approaches and creating a synthesis which is very compelling to me. ( Read more... )

Oh thank you! I'm so glad PBS is finally putting videos up on their website. Now I don't have to make sure I am home Sunday night for Masterpiece Theatre! This program definitely looks interesting too.

De nada. Always a pleasure to share my simple joys with those who'll appreciate it.

Suggestion. Have you tried checking the PBS site while using an anonymous US proxy? Might be a bit slower, but you'll be able to get the best video quality without waiting on the torrent.

Well, obviously it's not an issue for me, since - as mentioned - I watched it a few weeks ago. But for anyone reading this and who doesn't mind mucking about with proxies, this is probably a very valid way to go about this task.

Someone once defined "myth" as "the story a people tells to themselves to explain who they are". I can see how the embarrassing parts could get left out as they pass the stories on.

I took a mythology course once, a long time ago, and one of the things I carried away was that Genesis sounds a lot like a lot of other creation or emergence stories -- "We used to live somewhere much better, but Trickster got us to leave and now we can't find our way back".
