Interesting effect mixing some clothes with the design, why don't you do that more? Do clothes normally ruin the bodypaint? And on a related note, what about wigs for hair effects?
Funny you should mention that, in that we did indeed use a wig for this set!
I use clothes occasionally, when they strike me as appropriate, but I don't want to use them "just because", you know? In this case, the set's concept seemed to call for it. The paint can actually ruin the clothes, since the paint I use is almost impossible to get out of the fabric once it's in there, but that's fairly rare. As long as the clothes are fairly loose, they tend not to damage the set.
Ah I see. I was thinking in terms of fancy colours/patterns, and then thought wigs because I assumed elaborate hair dyes would be a bit more commitment from the models than could be reasonably expected
Well, that last set I did, we certainly went all-out in terms of hair design, but that's the exception rather than the rule for a reason. It does take tons of work.
Still, it is something you'll see more of from time to time. I have a couple of other wigs to bring to bear in future sets.
Well, it at least allows me the luxury of hope that this might be the ONE set I've done that people won't tell me "looks like that girl in the X-Men movie". After having dozens of other sets - many of them containing no blue whatsoever - compared to Mystique, I welcome a comparison to some other naked, appearance-changing comic book character.
Well, she looked different in every panel she appeared in, so I guess in at least some of the panels from throughout the series, she might have looked this way at some point or another.
This having been said, I'm wracking my brains now to remember whether or not I created this design before or after I first read that series, just to figure out whether or not it might have informed me on some subconscious level...
Is everything working out okay in the new accommodation front?
On topic, I particularly like the seventh photo - the way the lines on her hand match up with the lines on the body, for some reason, really strike me.
