This video (link included in case I can't get this "embed" thing to work, or if you want to look at the original that doesn't have some other organization's URL plastered across it) shows how a room can become lethal to human life in a few seconds. While the video itself is about dry Yule trees, it's also a general reminder to keep your smoke ( Read more... )

Ah, now it works. Or maybe my 'puter wasn't away yet before.

P.S. I'd recently purchased, but have not yet read, The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes - And Why, by Amanda Ripley. Sounds like it might go well with your CERT studies. :-)

Any suggestions for apartment-dwellers? Building design varies, but some grant their residents precious little access to the inner workings of their apartments (shutoffs, breakers and the like).

However, I think the relevant Authority Figures (firefighters, EMS, building management etc) should have a pretty good idea of where to find shutoffs in the building. Your job is probably to get out and stay out if things get to that.

You're welcome.

By the way, do we know one another? Should I be friending you? Feel free to email me and give me annoyingly obscure hints about who you are.

If want me to ignore you forever, that is. I have little patience for games like that.

On the other hand, if you want me to actually communicate with you, however, skip the annoyingly obscure hints and be direct {grin}

I'm not sure we know each other. Originally, I thought we did but now I'm not so sure. I latched on to your blog because we have a mutual friend (a_petite_blond) and thought you had some interesting things to say and that we had common interests. Common interests are children, poly and Wicca. I hope I have not breached some type of obscure LiveJournal etiquette by adding you to my friends page. That is as direct as I can be. No annoying elusive hints :-)

No, no offense taken. I was just wondering if you were someone I should recognize. I haven't seen a_petite_blond for quite a while, but methinks she's good people.

Thanks for your kind words about "interesting things to say." Nice to "meet" you.
