He was wondering at what time he should really begin preparations for the party. It wasn't as though he was avoiding putting on the dress robes - she had purchased them for him, it would be rude of him not to wear them, regardless of how... colourful they seemed - it was just that he had been... rather preoccupied with his... thumb twiddling for the past few hours.

It was with this in mind that he proceeded up to her office, knocking lightly on the door to announce his presence before stepping in...

...and gaping at her attire. He very much forgot how to speak for a moment. And it was quite some time after that before he noticed her expression. She looked... distressed? Was he imagining that?

Feeling he should at least try to speak rather than gaping like a madman, he managed out a "Ah... hem... is something... bothering...?" before words gave up on him entirely. He really thought he was being rather ridiculous. But the dress was quite pretty.

She turned her gaze to him, grey eyes wet but no tears had yet fallen. "Severus," she said softly. She wasn't precisely sure how to answer his abbreviated question, so she simply shrugged bare shoulders.

"One of my sons is ... in Riverfell." She gestured vaguely toward the now quiet globe to explain the source of her knowledge.

She hesitated for only a moment before admitting softly. "And that makes me afraid."

"Ah," he said softly, moving further into the office toward her, opening his arms for an embrace if she was so inclined.

"I can imagine how that must feel," he murmured softly. "To have to fight against your own children... it must be difficult."

He imagined it was somewhat similar to how he felt having to fight against Lily. He had switched sides. He supposed that Ice wasn't exactly in that position, and also that it would solve nothing because it would then pit her against January. He wondered if the son was one that they could... encourage over to the side of Order, but from the look on her face, he doubted it.

"It's not that. Dami and I have been at odds before. He ... his father." She looked away reflexively. "His father was a chaos mage, and made sure to imbue him with that magic when he was young."

She reached out to take his hands rather than his embrace; she couldn't allow herself to have that just then. She couldn't accept that comfort. Not yet. "Suppose I'll have to make an announcement at the party," she mused aloud. "He's ... dangerous. Heartless. Power hungry."

To that end, it wouldn't surprise her at all if he took Ace's position. She wondered if he'd pull his punches, as it were, if he was pitted against her, face to face and one on one.

She honestly didn't know.
