"All right," she agreed once she had some measure of composure restore.

---------------------

"Let's go then."

Hammer smiled and once again offered her his arm, mirroring his actions on the first beach they'd met on today.

Hammer lowered his fists slowly, considering Sarah's request but glaring at his double for the impertinence of his question. The only reason Hammer didn't clock him out then and there was because it would be a damn shame to muss up such a handsomely chiseled face. A bit of hair mousse, some cleaning up, a new outfit and the man would be a work of art. You don't hit perfection, in much the same way that you don't hit women.

"Hammering," he responded, looking at Captain Reynolds as if he'd sprouted a second head, "You know, punching, lifting, beating evil to a pulp. I'm Captain Hammer. Los Angeles' most infamous super hero."

He flipped his hair back dramatically, echoing the other's mocking tone, "What are you Captain of?"

"As it happens, I'm the Captain of a transport ship, Serenity," he replied smugly, "Direct a whole crew, an' fly as I please."

Pfft. Hammering. As if that even made sense. More like this fool was the Captain of being pompous. He tried not to laugh at the hair flip, and failed markedly, a smirk playing around the corners of his mouth.

"You're a sailor?" he said with some distaste. How dull and disappointing - his double should have at least had a mildly interesting super power. What a loser. He smirked, preparing some additional disparaging remark until seconds later his brain caught up with his mouth.

"Wait... fly?"

A flying boat? What the hell kind of nonsense was that?

"Yes," Mal smirked right back at him, "Fly. It's a spaceship. Firefly class. With engines and a cargo hold and everything."

He was being cocky now, and he knew it. Something about Hammer's tone didn't mesh with him all. Not that he really cared what the idiot thought; clearly he had the superior intellect here.

Toooo lazy to switch accounts atm, doing both at once. xiong_shashou August 17 2008, 20:44:56 UTC
"Spaceship?" mouthed Hammer in utter disbelief, "A bug-spaceship? Don't tell me you're one of those science-nerds, you don't look the type!"

He'd never felt so affronted in all his life. A space nerd? With his very face? Evil had never sunk so low as this.

Immediate danger seemingly past Zoe was, for her part, trying terribly hard not to burst out laughing. She wound up instead with a wide smile, largest perhaps in months. The uncanny resemblance between the two was still damned confounding, but their flexing and posturing was mighty hilarious. Hammer seemed like a daft tool, all muscle and no brains, not unlike their merc Jayne, but her Captain certainly was displaying a pretty bit of ego as well.

"Sir," she intoned, interrupting further protests from Hammer, "It's possible the Captain here is from another 'verse as well, like them magic-castin' girls and all."

Mal tried to ignore the dig at his character, and focused instead on Zoe.

"I suppose," he murmured under his breath, continuing to shoot Hammer an incredulous look, "Would account for the...slyness"

That weren't exactly right, either, but it was the only reasoning he could come up with for the hair flipping thing, not to mention the flexing and posing.

Pleased that things seemed to have gone all right, Charlie offered them both a little smile before glancing around again. Maybe now she could get into something that wasn't spotted with scorch marks (or barely there at all, in the case of her shirt).

"This has been a really, really weird day," she said to no one in particular.

Picking up on the Sarah's presence, Mal nodded in agreement.

"That it has," he agreed, trying to ignore her less than clothed state, "Fact, it's been a rather strange couple of days, I reckon. How's it been with your...companion, here?"

He spoke as if Hammer weren't even in the room, hoping that if he pretended the man wasn't there, he wouldn't be. It was embarrassing, having someone wandering around with his face, actin' that way.

"Oh, it ... I just met him?" She offered awkwardly. "This morning, actually, at the oasis. It's been fine though," she decided, offering Mal a little smile.

It really was weird though, having two guys that looked the same and weren't related. She found herself studying them and picking out similarities and differences before she shook her head. She really, really wanted to change into something.

Slyness? How was it that calling him clever was meant to be an insult? It had certainly sounded like one. Preoccupied with this, Hammer fell silent a moment but was roused once again by his lovely companion's voice.

"Hey," he intoned indignantly, picking up on Mal's latest subtle insult, "I've been treating the lady just fine, thank you. In fact, we were just on our way to fetch her some fresh clothes."

He smiled at Sarah, trying his best not to yet Captain #2's suspenders catch his eye again. Good god, didn't that sort of thing go out of style a hundred-some years previously? And why did he have to wear his pants so high? He looked like he was nearly sporting leiderhosen; all he needed to complete the picture was an accordion or something equally obnoxious. It was embarrassing, having someone with his face wandering around dressed that way.

Mal held up his hands defensively, effectively dropping the subject.

"Alright, alright," he chuckled, "No need to get testy."

He stepped out of the way to let them past, figuring that at the very least poor Sarah there probably wanted to get away from prying eyes and into some decent clothing.

Charlie offered them both a little smile before she started slowly up the stairs. Oh, when would the bizarreness ever end, she wondered to herself as she glanced briefly around the dorm's interior.

Third floor meant a lot of stairs, and she sighed a little before glancing back to make sure the Captain was with her. She didn't really want to leave Zoe alone with the two of them - even though she was perfectly sure the other woman could handle whatever happened to come up.

"Right behind you, sweet thing," called Captain Hammer in response to Sarah's backwards glance. Giving Mal and Zoe a final once over (in the excitement, he hadn't really paid her much mind at all - she was a damn fine looking woman as well, lucky bastard!) he headed up in her wake.

Mal rolled his eyes. Who was this idiot, really? No one could be that dense. You didn't talk to womenfolk like that, not ever.

He scowled at Hammer's retreating form before shooting Zoe a 'what in the rutting hell was that?' look.

Once Sarah and Captain Hammer were through the first doorway Zoe turned to Mal, a bemused grin splitting her face.

"Well now," she said, "That was unique."
