He was looking for a drink. And he'd always found Laurel amusing... if confusing. Realizing in his head that that rhymed, he made a pleased expression and tilted his head back and forth a few times as he repeated it.
In the tilting of his head, he noticed a familiar face. He sighed. Well, it was only a matter of time, he supposed. He swaggered his way over to the bar.
"Look, you're going to get this a lot," he said, pulling up a bar stool. "But you? Are a clone. You look like an old friend of mine, before I ended up spending three weeks here. I really don't think I'm ever going home at this point. But anyway - yes. Ted Mosby. You're probably going to get that a lot, since I am awesome and very well known around here. Just thought I'd give you the warning."
He reached out to pat the man he thought was a stranger to him on the shoulder, giving him a pitying expression, and then started to turn away.
Ted remained straight faced throughout Barney's little speech, lips pursed slightly, his hands wrapped around his beer glass. His brows raised a bit, but that was the only sign he had any reaction at all. He waited until Barney turned away before he spoke.
"Barney," he said solemnly, "I am Ted Mosby. And you haven't been gone three weeks; I saw you yesterday." He paused. "Granted, you were dressed differently; more in the way of raver scabies and neon colours, but you were still you."
He raised his brows higher as if he had just proved a very broad and furthermore meaningful point as he raised his glass to his lips and took a sip.
Barney stopped, and started to turn back, and peered at Ted a bit more closely.
"No..." he started to say, as if Ted were playing some sort of joke on him. He leaned back slowly. "No..." he repeated, and then tilted his head slightly to the side.
And then his face split into the biggest grin that he could manage, and he darted forward and wrapped hiss arms tightly around Ted middle, squeezing tight for a full minute before he pulled back, resting his hands on Ted's shoulders and literally jumping up and down in his excitement.
"Ted! TED? Is it really you?! I can't believe it's really you Ted! It's been three weeks and I was sure that no one was going to show up and OH I HAVE SO MUCH TO SHOW YOU! And there was no one here who wanted to be my bro exclusively because I had Edward for like a day but he has a girl who he won't drop for the life of him and IT'S A MIRACLE TED, THAT's what it is that brought you here and I HAVE SO MUCH TO SHOW YOU
( ... )
Ted endured the assault, rather taken aback - and almost touched - by Barney's enthusiasm.
"We need to talk about your caffeine intake," he replied once he'd finished, "But yes, it is really me. I don't know about any miracle, but it's me. I'm here." He gestured about the bar vaguely. "... Wherever here is."
It was unsettling, really, though the sight of Barney had helped a bit. Still, he wasn't sure why exactly he was here and the other's hyperactivity wasn't helping that much.
