I knew right away that your roomies were wrong. I am one of those people who have been raised to do dishes by hand, simply because we never got a dishwasher. I can say that with all the time it takes to wash and rinse one dish, the dishwasher is probably about 1/8 of the way done with a full load of dishes. I too despise cooking simply because I hate cleaning afterward.
