Sasha was trying not to think very much about the way things had played out recently. Henry was back with his mother, and Gracie was (sort of) back with her family. Neither one of these things really had anything to do with her. She knew that, and kept reminded herself of it often. Peter did the same, getting a slightly better result than she usually gave herself.
It was hard not to feel like they hated her. Gracie had probably apologized because she felt like she had to. She could have been sorry for the fight without being sorry for the feelings behind it. Maybe telling Carmen about everything had been a mistake, but Sasha still didn't see how. She just knew that saving Dean was too much of a burden for Gracie to carry alone. The fight and everything that had followed still worried her, but maybe the infant version of her niece wouldn't remember any of it if they succeeded in saving Dean. It was impossible to guess how that was going to work out.
All she knew was that she had started out trying to be the best aunt ever, and had ended up being the most hated.
Henry probably hated her now, too. Yeah, he loved his mom, but he had cried when Sasha left. He must have thought that she was abandoning him. When she called to check on him after and Cassie said he was fine, but what did 'fine' mean? It probably meant that he was making the best of things, as he had once done with her. He was too young to understand anything other than the fact that she had taken care of him and then ditched him.
Even now, as she pretended to people watch with Peter on the beach, she couldn't stop thinking about how disappointed Henry had been. His cries were usually loud enough to begin with, but this had been on an entirely different level. And that face, well, she knew that look of betrayal wasn't something she had made up to let herself think that she was important.
She missed Henry and Gracie, and she loved them. If that wasn't returned anymore, she couldn't blame them. She just hated it.
