Okay.

1) I got a new job!  After feeling rather underused at my receptionist position, I applied as a contributor to the Torontoist blog (apparently the most widely-read blog of its kind in Toronto).  It's not much--I get paid an astonishing $4 a post for whatever I feel like writing once a week.  I'm both excited and anxious that I've got too much ( Read more... )

Hey, I was meaning to write this since Wednesday night. Remember (vaguely?) the film I was going to see? God, I wish you had come - turns out to have been La Morte rouge by Victor Erice, preceded by The Scarlet Claw by William [something] Neill, which I gather was a fairly popular 1944 Holmes serial killer film. We had so many laughs, and then Erice's began with shots of the sea and the modern city, went back to the early 40s with footage and photographs of what was supposed to have been their grand old local casino - basically about how the dreams of [city?] had to step aside during the war. Everybody took refuge at the movies, at the Scarlet Claw was the first film he remembered seeing, and it became all the more fascinating because it was also the first (on-screen) murder he had ever witnessed, and as a child he became perplexed as to why it was that an audience could sit complicit in the killings.

*Sigh* I *really* wish I had asked you to come! And I hate what my boring work has done to my ability to communicate.
