one - failure to communicate

Is that a little camera in there?

[ Yes, that is a little camera in there, and it is on. Say hello to the deep sparkling blueness that is an extreme close-up of an eye. ]

Hello.

[ This man - and I use the term "man" loosely here, since it currently describes an effeminate purple-haired person with a girly voice - has clearly never seen anything ( Read more... )

You've got to use the text function, if you want to write on it. [He's amused.]

Hey! [ Startled, he covers the camera with one hand. He might be technologically clueless, but he's not stupid. ] If I knew what I was doing, I would be wearing a shirt right now!

[ Now that his modesty has been temporarily restored, he takes a closer look at that strikingly familiar face smiling back at him. ]

... Ben?!

[Luke just laughs at that. Not meanly, but...]

- Sorry?

I'm glad you find my predicament entertaining.

[ ... Yeah, there's obvious amusement in his voice, too. ]

Seriously, what's your name?

Well, don't worry about it. It happens to everyone - I put a shirt on first, but I already knew what a datapad was.

I'm Luke. Who're you? [He doesn't give his last name out anymore.]

[ Stunned, thoughtful silence. Then: ]

... Cephiro, I guess? [ Weakly. He's finally having his "OH GOD I'M ON A DIFFERENT WORLD" moment. ] Hi, Luke.

[Man, someone else who goes quiet... Luke's getting tired of that.]

Hi. Sooo, I don't think you've gotten briefed? This is Coruscant.

[ If asked, Cephiro would just blame the amnesia. Luke asked a really difficult question, okay? ]

Oh. [ hesitates ] Not to be rude, but that means nothing to me.

That's pretty common. It's a planet. Oldest settled world in the Republic, it's all city, aside from near the poles and at some mountains no one's seen the ground for thousands of years...

[ More stunned silence - albeit maybe a bit shorter this time. ]

You have to be kidding--

[ Goes to the window to look out. Not like he hasn't tried that before, but now he has to do it with the knowledge that the whole planet is one giant city and there might not be ground down there for miles and miles. Of course, now the camera is exposed, but he's covered up with a sheet from the bed by this point. ]

... I'm going out there. Clothes or no clothes.

- You know, you can get clothes from one of the droids first. It's cold outside.

Oh! Thanks!

[ ... Yep, and he right ran off to go do that. (Okay, so there was a slight kerfluffle because the door has a button, but basically straight off.) But he's only gone for a second, and when he comes back he tosses the sheet on top of the datapad. ]

... Sorry. I was an Adventurer at the last place I was - it's kind of a half-explorer, half-cartographer kind of job - so... No, that really doesn't excuse how rude I'm being, but I'm sure this is pretty common, too?

... We can still talk, though. Are you from here?

It happens. [Luke hitches a shoulder in a shrug.]

No, I'm from Tatooine. It's nothing like here - all desert, very boring. [He doesn't say it as flatly as he might have; Luke won't admit it, but he's quietly homesick.]

[ Something about the way that's said comes off more as modesty than distaste, to Cephiro's ears. ]

... But you can't go back?

sand_wormie December 17 2011, 00:54:15 UTC
No - well, I could. I know Czerka's set up mining ops there. But there'd be no reason to.

- I'm from the future, compared to... when it is now. Way out in the future.

Oh.

[ Finally dressed, grabs the datapad and heads out. ]

... Are you busy?
