As for image packs, I am barely familiar with .png in the first place (had never even heard of them until a year ago) but so far I seem to like them. I tend to save my icons in .jpg format but it's more out of habit than anything else. So, yeah, no preference ^ ^

I find .png images are usually better quality & support transparency whereas .jpg images are usually... not. Heh. Though they're often smaller filesizes.
