I've been looking around the internet lately for a comprehensive list of classics that everyone should read, i.e. Catcher in the Rye, The Giver,Farhenheit 451, The Great Gatsby, and Weathering Heights. My suggestion is try the one over at librarything.com.

The classic or classics tag and then the unread tag list is also interesting.
