Ratte and Rattenkind are Susannes horses. Ratte is the darkbay arab mare and Rattenkind the bay filly. The "large" bay gelding is Cisco. He is Florian's horse.
Thanks! ^_^ Only Cisco is too big to be pretty. *g* He's the bay one with the blaze.
What do you define as a "pony" in the US? I read this expression quite often for all kinds of horses, so I wonder... As Germans are we have a definition for "pony". First of all, every horse not higher than 1.48 meters is a pony and all ponies which are breed with a pony pedigree (e.g. all those British pony breeds, like Welsh, Dartmoor, Shetland, and Haflingers, Norwegians, etc). Those might be higher than 1.48 meters but they are still pony.
By most show definitions the cut-off for pony height is 14.2 hands. Breed-wise, it's the same here as there, with certain breeds being ponies no matter what their height.
Then there are polo ponies and working cow ponies, which are colloquially called ponies even though they are actually horses.
And yes, sometimes "pony" is used in an affectionate way, especially when combined with the word "pretty" since they both begin with "p." XD
Oh, thanks for the explanation. :) In Germany many people use "pony" for small horses as a belittlement, but not in the good sense. For the dressage and show jumping riders around here "pony" is a lesser horse.
I had a pony for nearly 20 years, my good old Konchita. And in all this years there were people who asked me, when I will finally buy a real horse? I hated them!
So, hey, I love the way you use pony as an expression for pretty! :D
Yes, Cisco is the best of all standardbreds. He is Polish and big (not high, just big) and I'm sure he eats a clown every morning when noone's looking. *g*

I need to blow the dust off my camera and go take some snapshots. Maybe tomorrow if it doesn't rain.
