Speaking of steampunk, I'm desirous of incorporating the same into my daily wardrobe. It would lend an interesting aire to my doctorate pursuits in artificial intelligence. Any pointers would be very helpful.
steampunk translates differently for a lot of folks, but victorian-esque items are almost ALWAYS a hallmark of fashion -- why do you think fancy dress and weddings still include high winged collars, tails and spats?
we're still exploring men's steampunk, but Daniel's started with a gear-embroidered fez from Fez-O-Rama), a bee-motif satin cravat (made by himself), a plain black vest to which he added gold brocade lapel, a basic brown sports-jacket (that's just begging to have leather ovals stitched to the elbows -- but that's 1950's). a faux calabash pipe (which i steampunk'd) and frameless gold spectacles finish off the look for "Sir Reginald Gearbottom the Third, Duke of Chutney".
Hey Miss Dart- I thought maybe you'd be the person to ask about this:
I'd like to commission a wood-burned tavern-shingle-esque sign as decoration for our new apartment. I don't have exact measurements at the moment, but would be willing to pay around $100 for good looking work.
Anyway, if you know anyone feel free to give them my email address. :)
Oddly enough, woodburning is one craft we _don't_ have in the Craft Room.
However, Etsy has a custom-work bidding system - Alchemy! (love the name)
we also found a nifty sign, "The Crow's Nest Tavern" for our Pirate Bathroom, for about $15 at Ross... sometimes there's hidden treasures in those scary places.
