I just read The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms recently as well, and liked it quite a bit, though I didn't come to that realization fully until I was about halfway through the book. Somehow, that was the point when all of the unusual names finally clicked for me, and I could "get" what was going on.

Any rate, I liked it well enough to buy her second book, and the third one is on my wishlist for when it comes out. :)

(Also, I got this totally Celestial Bureaucracy (Exalted) vibe from it, and have recommended it to cochese as such. :) )
