oh wow rose!! that's amazing! you should totally see if you can talk more with him! i found when i did interviews with the older generations that they loved the attention, sharing their stories and it really reinforced their ideals of "listen to your elders". i really wish i could have continued on with the interviews when i worked with the museum.
i got to chat with a gentleman who lived in i want to say the danish lands. he was, as he called himself "a dane". he told me how he played with a paper elephant "ollyphant" he called it. and that it was one of his favorite toys as a child.
How neat! Yeah, he said he'd come by in another week or so with more books for me to look at. He knew alot of the history of the weapons, which was neat - he wasn't in the war himself, too young, but all his older brothers/cousins were so he had the perspective of hearing it all from them. And also of being a mechanic who's fascinated by the bits and bobs and how they work. It's very neat to hear.
my great uncle was in a house when it got bombed. he told me about it and other experiences he had. in chicago when i was there, we went to the museum and got to walk through the Uboat. it was a tour and it was really neat.
I canz share! For 'lo, there's stuff like megaupload where I can stash really big files. ^___^ (Tomorrow, on the day off. I'll upload stuff to share! I haven't really looked at the stuff on the disk yet, but the manual I scanned is awesome. Prited in 1950, but the gun in question was used from wwII to the korean war.)
(Yayz! Thankya. And waaah! I'm still waiting for netflix to ship my last two BoB discs. x_x)
thank you! I took some very good advice to just do lots of them, so I will. I'm only just starting to apply it to my art, so hopefully I should improve ^^
